You want a house that's beautiful, efficient, comfortable, and in tune with nature.
We want you to feel like coming home is the best thing in the world.
We design modern, high-performance homes for clients who care about how a home looks, how it lives, and how it performs — across the Mountain West.

02 - DESIGN PHILOSOPHYThree things every project has to get right.
A home in the Gunnison Valley has to earn its place — where the landscape and climate set the terms. Great design means connecting you to both.
01Modern design
Clean lines, honest materials, indoor-outdoor spaces that feel as good as they look. Architecture rooted in this place — shaped by site, climate, and the way you actually live.
02Connection with nature
Homes that respond to their site — capturing views, managing solar gain, and stepping lightly on the land. Thoughtful in every season, not just summer.
03High performance
Energy efficiency isn't an add-on. It's built into the design from day one — whether the goal is Passive House, Net Zero, or simply dramatically better than code.
03 - HIGH-PERFORMANCE HOMESWhat it means to build at 9,000 feet.
The Gunnison Valley spans some of the most varied terrain in Colorado — from the high-desert floor of Gunnison to the high-alpine environment of Crested Butte at over 9,000 feet. Both sit in Climate Zone 7, the most demanding cold-climate environment in the lower 48. Heavy snow loads, extreme temperature swings, intense UV, and hard freeze-thaw cycles change what good building actually looks like.
Every project starts with the envelope — because that's where comfort, efficiency, and durability are either won or lost.
STANDARD PRACTICE ON EVERY PROJECT
01Building orientation
05Airtight assemblies + mechanical ventilation
PROJECTS THAT GO BEYOND CODE
02Snow + moisture management
06Thermal bridge-free detailing
Passive House
The most rigorous energy standard in the world. Travis has designed to Passive House principles for over a decade — not because of the certification, but because the building science works.
03Super-insulated envelope
04Triple-pane European windows
07Built to last
Built-in comfort
No cold spots, no drafts, no temperature swings. The kind of deep, even warmth that makes you forget there's a blizzard outside.
Net Zero Energy
Homes that generate as much energy as they consume — achievable when the envelope is done right.
05 - MEET TRAVIS
Travis Scheefer, licensed architect.
I've been designing and building for the past twenty years — first with tools in hand, then with a license on the wall. That combination — architect and builder — shapes everything about how I work: designs that are beautiful, buildable, and grounded in the realities of construction.
My practice is rooted in Gunnison, Colorado, with most of my work in Crested Butte and across the broader Mountain West. Every client works directly with me — not a junior designer, not a project manager. Me.
“I respect an architect who wears a tool belt.”
- Nathan, custom home builder05 - CONTACTLet's talk about your project.
The first step is a conversation. Tell me about your property and the project you have in mind — maybe you're wondering what it actually costs to build a high-performance home in Crested Butte. I'll be honest with you about what's realistic.
